Ivane Javakhishvili tbilisi state medical university
Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University
TSU was founded in 1918 by Ivane Javakhishvili, a popular Georgian historian of western education, and the community of his followers. This is the first Caucasian University in the country. Medical education in Georgia began in 1918 when the medical faculty was established at the TSU.
In 1930 the Faculty of Medicine was split from the University and founded as the Tbilisi State Medical Institute; in 1995 TSU restored medical education as an autonomous institutional unit of the University of Medicine. Today TSU is a driving force behind higher education in Georgia.
The key goals, ideals, values and changes of the university are carried out systematically in a systematic, organised manner and have set TSU on a road of growth leading to a shared world and a field of European higher education. Today TSU is Georgia’s largest university with more than 20 000 students and 1500 academic staff members in 7 faculties. TSU has eight campuses, 14 scientific-research and educational-research institutes, over 100 laboratories and centres, libraries and associated academic hospitals and diagnostic centre network.
